bacteria are single celled organisms that lack double membranous organelles but do have plasma membrane (also known as cell membrane) that is surrounded by cell wall. it is a lipid bilayer structure that is semi permeable or selectively permeable (allow only selective materials to enter or exit cell). it also provides protection to cell.
