XLD agar id used to inhibit the growth of the gram-positive micro-organisms. XLD act as both selective and differential.
selective agent in XLD agar is sodium deoxycholate(this don’t support the growth of the gram-positive bacteria ).
in this media xylose is present that is fermented by bacteria, produce acid and then media colour change into yellow.
