E. coli, like many other bacteria, move using whip-like structures called flagella. These flagella are like tiny tails that bacteria use to propel themselves through their environment. When the flagella rotate in a coordinated manner, they create a whipping motion that propels the bacteria forward. This allows E. coli to swim towards nutrients or away from harmful substances in their environment. It’s a bit like how a fish uses its fins to swim in water, but on a much smaller scale!
