Well, that particular outbreak back in 2020-2021 definitely fizzled out. Salmonella is a sneaky little bacteria that can live in birds without them even showing any signs. So, while that big outbreak stopped, it’s always a good idea to be careful around our feathered friends.
So, the outbreak may be over, but that doesn’t mean we can be careless. Keep your feeders clean, wash your hands after playing outside, and don’t try to cuddle any sick or injured birds (that’s a job for wildlife rehab folks). By following these simple steps, you can enjoy watching our feathered friends without getting a nasty case of the belly rumbles.
