some toothpaste contains stannous fluoride that can kill bacteria which cause cavities and gingivitis. that is why it is recommended to use toothpaste that contain fluoride. new toothpastes also contain triclosan and copolymer. triclosan inhibit bacteria and plaque. copolymer increase triclosan stay in mouth for longer protection.
