nitrogen fixing bacteria are those that have an important role in nitrogen cycle. these bacteria convert atmospheric nitrogen into inorganic molecules that are used by plants. these bacteria are of two types:
1. free living that do not show any association with other living organisms i.e. azotobacter, nostoc, clostridium, beijerinckia
2. symbiotic (mutualistic bacteria) that benefits other organism and get benefitted from them i.e rhizobium assiciated with leguminous plants.
