Scott Martin, University of Illinois said that salmonella is an ubiquitous bacteria so it’s almost impossible to eliminate it completely from the surrounding.
Martin said, that there are extreme chances of the birds feces to fall into water bodies in which the fishes like goldfish are grown and feed . That is how salmonella can contaminate goldfish.
