Salmonella has a wide range of hosts. It affects many species of host. Salmonella also affects the turtle in two ways.
From contaminated water:
Turtle develops bacteria from the environment. The environment contaminated with fecal material transmits the bacteria to turtle. Food contaminated with bacteria or environment causes the infection in chicks. Turtle with a weak immune system is more prone to the development of disease.
From mother:
In this method, bacteria affect the reproductive tract of mother of turtle. The mother is responsible for the entry of salmonella into baby. Mother gets the infection from the contaminated feces. Contaminated feces transmit the bacteria into a healthy turtle. If ovaries are infected by salmonella, bacteria get chance to enter into the baby turtle. Eggs nourish in the presence of bacteria and got infection.
