There is ongoing research to understand the link between Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria and cancer. While E. coli infections can lead to severe health issues such as urinary tract infections and gastrointestinal problems, current evidence suggests that E. coli itself does not directly cause cancer. However, certain strains of E. coli produce toxins that can damage cells and increase the risk of developing cancer in the long term, particularly in the colon and urinary tract.
