salmonella obtain energy through respiration by converting the glucose into the pyruvic acid. as u know that respiration process is done with the help of the oxygen but here is the interesting point that is :
salmonella use chemical (tetrathionate) as a substitute for oxygen (in case of the absence of the oxygen)
when salmonella attaches with mucosal surface of the intestine then it’s done the inflammation of the intestine and make the surface rough.. due to the inflation of the intestine, tetrathionate produce as a byproduct.
