it is the temperature that kills bacteria. if temperature attained above 60 degrees C it can kill bacteria. microwave oven produce microwaves that vibrate particles to generate heat.
microwave boils the water and this boiling of water can kill bacteria. if microwave attain such temperature and can make steam of water by boiling then bacteria will be killed in minutes.
