yes e.coli can cause urinary tract infections or we can say most of the urinary tract infections are cause by e.coli (more than 85%). e.coli live in gut normally and do not cause any harm but if it get chance to go in urinary tract it infects it. this infection is followed by other bacteria like salmonella, proteus, klebsiella etc. hence urinary tract infection occur by the imbalance of bacteria in urinary tract. if infection get severe it can also infect kidneys.
