    salmonella can be present both inside egg or on the shell. salmonella can be inside egg if hens ovary or oviduct have salmonella and it infect egg yolk or white before forming of shell.
    egg shells are contaminated when chicken lay egg on the droppings (feces). that is why it is recommended to wash egg shells before use.
