    Thermococcus belong to domain archaea and they are thermophiles. they are irregular shaped cocci with size of 0.6 to 2 micro meter in diameter. some species are non-motile and some have flagella. they can tolerate temperature of 60 degrees C or above up to 105 degrees C. they can be present in fresh water springs or hydrothermal vents. these are strict anaerobes and heterotrophs (obligate).
