    salmonella can be present in faeces of both domestic and wild animals. vegetables (like lettuce and onions) are more likely to get salmonella if manure is contaminated with salmonella or irrigated with contaminated water.
    vegetables can also get bacteria if they are processed i.e. their cutting, packaging is done by contaminated apparatus.
    if vegetables are placed near raw chicken or under cooked chicken then salmonella on raw chicken or juice of undercooked meat can also make vegetables contaminated.
